Minority Businesses Create Jobs

Roger A. Campos, columnist in Federal Times, considers that the main focus of congressmen and president Obama’s administration should be creating jobs, the main concern of Americans according to a poll conducted by CBS News and The New York Times last year. The secret is in small businesses programs emphasizing microloans and business start-ups. “These businesses —he says— are an underutilized national resource. Without expending and extra penny or taxpayer money, the federal government could save thousands of small businesses and create thousands of jobs by increasing contract goals.” From 2002 to 2007 minority’s businesses increased at twice the rate of nonminority businesses to 5.8 million small and medium companies. The specific growth of Hispanic and African American businesses shows that microfinance reaches its social inclusion goals.
